On Friday, my Grandmother was admitted to Elmhurst Hospital after she encountered a rare reaction to her radiation treatment. To say I was a nervous wreck would be an understatement. Although I am a nurse, I found myself in a bind due to being pregnant. With Grandma’s treatment, I was not able to be there for her as I would have liked to.

Once Grandma was admitted, I touched base with her nurse, Caroline. I explained my situation, and immediately, Caroline informed me of the importance of the restrictions. She reassured me that Grandma was in great hands. Caroline told me to call whenever I felt the need and that she would make sure Grandma was truly taken care of. From water without ice to a cake pop from Starbucks, Caroline went above and beyond. Not only did Caroline provide the most holistic care, but she took on the role of the “advocating granddaughter.” It was beyond comforting to know that someone was with my Grandma, especially when I couldn’t be.

Thank you, Caroline, for everything. There are nurses in this world, and then there’s you. You are truly amazing, and my family cannot thank you enough for being you. Hospital stays are never easy, but after my Grandmother’s weekend with Caroline, she is beyond okay with staying again if it’s ever necessary. Thank you so much.

My weekend stay was a whirlwind, and I did not know what to expect. To say the staff was amazing would be an understatement. Everyone was great, especially Caroline. Caroline made things so easy for me, from water without ice, which is my favorite, to a pen and paper when I needed to take notes. She did it all. Between the gorgeous room and Caroline’s comfort, I felt like I was a guest at the Marriot Marquis rather than a patient at the hospital. Caroline went the extra mile for me, and I can’t thank her enough. Although my family could not visit, I never felt alone because I had Caroline.

Caroline, you are a great nurse, advocate, and now friend. I recovered so fast, and I thank you for that. Thank you so much, Caroline.
