I nominate Carrie Geib, RN for the DAISY Award because she exemplifies the caring and compassionate nursing practice that the DAISY Award promotes.
Along with taking care of inpatients on the orthopedic floor, Carrie takes care of the patients who come in for myelograms. These patients come in early in the morning sometimes 2 and 3 at a time and it is up to Carrie to greet them and get them ready to go down for their tests. She must quickly get them admitted and physically ready to be taken for their test while educating the patient and their family that has come with them about what will be happening. There are many things to do very quickly and she does them as a primary care nurse making sure all orders are followed.
Carrie checks all of the tests that a patient might be having done and her involvement and accountability have shown her to be able to overcome any road blocks that may come up with scheduling problems. She has identified problems that would have prevented the patient from having to come back to make up a test or would have delayed the patient's surgery.
Even when she is feeling stressed and rushed she doesn't show it. Carrie is always compassionate with her patients, respectful of all hospital staff and is a complete team player with the staff on her home floor. She is always willing to help other nurses and techs when asked. She is an excellent example of the dedicated nurse, quietly doing her job in a way that honors the nursing profession.
