Carrol Villacorte is an amazing Nurse. Upon taking a report of a COVID patient, Carrol immediately escalated for assistance and engaged her team members on all possible nursing interventions. She was working with the physician team to help prevent the patient from declining and also took the advice of her peers on how to help get the oxygen saturation of the patient up. Carrol was very vocal that her main goal was to get the patient back to a baseline to be able to keep them on the Medicine unit. Carrol delegated some care for her other patients to various staff members to ensure they received good care. Carrol spent multiple hours in the room coaching the COVID patient through every breath, proning movement, and intervention, to get the oxygen saturations stable. The patient, while not able to speak much, was very appreciative of Carrol's dedication to her situation. It was as if Carrol was dedicated to one-on-one care like an L&D nurse.
I feel that Carrol went above and beyond in this situation and clearly gave her heart and soul. Every time she came out of the room she was drenched in sweat, but would immediately obtain what she needed and go right back into the room. Eventually the patient was transferred to a higher level of care, which Carrol took personally. She wanted to be able to help the patient to keep them on the floor but recognized that higher-level interventions and care were needed. The only thing she voiced was that she hoped she did everything she could and wished the patient well.
This day was a team effort but Carrol was the shining star. Her compassion for the patient's situation was evident by her desire to spend so many hours next to the patient and hold her hand through the entire process.
Carrol is an exemplary nurse that showed her true spirit of caring in this situation. She truly went above and beyond and continues to always provide this level of care and compassion to all of her patients. Carrol helps deliver personalized care to her patients.
