Charles has displayed what it is to be a committed CBOC manager to his staff and especially to his Veterans.
Charles is one of the best nurse managers I have had the pleasure of working with. He is always going above and beyond when it comes to patient care of our veterans. Any time Charles walks through the clinic he makes sure all of the veterans are being taken care of. There have been many times when the Olympia lab has been extremely busy and Charles will do whatever he can to make sure that the veterans are taken care of by helping in the lab and screening patients, all with a smile on his face and a story to tell the veteran to make them feel more comfortable while in our care.

The amount of respect that he has surpasses any manager that I have worked with in the government system. This writer was asked to come in on teleworking days due to being understaffed. Charles could have made an announcement in huddle, however, he spoke to each individual separately. He also made sure to let us know that he wanted to be fair to everyone. When it comes to excellence, this is one of the best attributes Charles has. He has assembled the best team in the Olympia clinic for this; I am happy to come to work everyday. Of all my years working in the VA system and working with many RN Managers, Charles has gone above and beyond in taking care of his Veterans, his Nurses, his Providers, and entire CBOC staff.

From day one, he has displayed confidence in the staff that work not only for him but wants that his staff work WITH him in taking care of our Veterans and the mission of Puget Sound VA Health System. Charles has displayed what it is to be a committed CBOC manager to his staff and especially to his Veterans. When the nursing staffing numbers have been short, he has jumped in to take care of our Veterans as a PACT nurse and work side by side with fellow nurses. When things have been a bit chaotic in the waiting room of our CBOC, Charles has gone out to speak "with the troops" to calm down whatever the situation may be and offer whatever solution to make a Veteran's visit at the CBOC a much more pleasant experience. He will follow through with checking back with Veterans to make sure they have been cared for. Without Charles, I do not think the opening of the Olympia CBOC would have gone as well as it has. He continues to make the Olympia CBOC an exceptional clinic for the Veterans but also for his Nurses, Providers, and entire Staff.
