My grandmother was admitted to the medical ICU recently. The charge nurse on night shift assigned us this associate to be our nurse because, as the charge nurse stated, this associate is compassionate and a wonderful nurse. This associate absolutely proved this to us hands down. This individual was extremely patient, loving, and compassionate to my entire family and grandmother during this difficult time. This person made sure to keep my grandmother comfortable throughout the entirety of the associate’s shift. This individual was thorough in explaining everything to my family who didn’t understand. This associate listened actively as we shared memories of our grandmother and never showed that they were in a hurry. I have been an ER nurse for 2 years and a CNA for 10 years and I understand that the job is busy. This associate took the time to slow down and ensure that all questions were answered, offered water for us, and spoke to my grandmother throughout care activities with the utmost respect. Nurses can make or break the experience and I couldn’t have asked for a better soul to help during this time. When we made the decision to withdraw care and move to “Comfort Measures Only”, this person quickly got the physician to a private area to discuss goals, and outcomes, and to explain the process thoroughly. This associate made a very difficult situation more comforting and at ease with passion and care. I want this associate and others to know the level of appreciation we have for this associate. This individual was truly meant for this job. I know it is difficult for caregivers too, but this associate made all the difference in our situation.
