Chelsea Hardesty works in the System-Wide Float Pool and was pulled to our unit today. Throughout her shift, she has demonstrated extraordinary caring for one of our patients and his wife.
We have a patient who has been renting a house, but the landlord sold the house and gave the patient 2 months to find another home. He was unable to do so, and he and his wife won't have anywhere to go at discharge. He asked for help several times, and the Social Worker gave him resources to call but said that she couldn't help find him a place to live. Chelsea recognized that he was having some difficulty processing all of the information that he was given, and that he was super stressed. Instead of accepting that there was nothing that could be done to help him, she took all of the phone numbers given to him and started calling them. She found him a place to live that fits his budget, and then found people to help him move his bigger items. She printed all of the forms that he needed to apply for the apartment and is filling them out with him. She also found an organization that can supply him with food. She keeps saying that it is divine intervention, but I think that what she did to help this patient is nothing less than exceptional!
