During one recent visit, a 20-year-old patient, S, was facing a frightening diagnosis and awaiting the results of her biopsy. S's parents flew to Orange County from Michigan on a red-eye flight to be with their daughter and arrived exhausted. When Cheryl arrived for her shift, she observed that the parents had not eaten. She immediately went to the cafeteria to get food and returned with additional vouchers for future meals. Cheryl also personally arranged for the floor RN to order recliners and a gurney so the parents could be more comfortable.
"Cheryl was in and out of my room constantly, chatting, making me laugh — like a very good friend," S said. She also remembers Cheryl praying with her when she needed it most: "It was the nicest thing anyone could have done."
