Looking back on the 5 days my daughter was in CHOA's NICU fighting NEC everything was a complete blur of memories and emotions. However, the one constant thing that stood out to me was our nurse. She was kind, caring, compassionate and so very understanding. She was with us Friday and Saturday and then made it a point to switch shifts with another nurse so she could be there while we removed life support from my daughter Sunday afternoon. I have a very large family with very large personalities and she navigated through all of it with such ease and caring. She shared with us that she had also been in our situation a few years back as she also had to make the decision to discontinue support from her disabled son. I don't know how she can put herself in a position to deal with families like ours after having been through what she has been through herself. Anytime my family or I look back on that time at CHOA, Cheryl will always be a positive memory. She is truly a blessing to not only me and my family but also to CHOA.
