She listened to the questions and concerns the patient had. Christine spent a significant amount of time with this patient and his mother.
I've had the pleasure of working side-by-side with Christine for many years. There are many interactions that she could be nominated for; however, this one stands out in particular.

While tending to a patient on 9G, Christine went absolutely above and beyond to meet the needs of this patient.

This patient was faced with a choice of making a life-altering decision. Christine presented education on how to care for himself after this potential surgery. She provided products for the patient and his mother to go over. She carefully described the process of how to change this specific medical appliance. She listened to the questions and concerns the patient had. Christine spent a significant amount of time with this patient and his mother. After Christine finished the conversation and teaching, she escalated to the physicians on something she felt the patient needed and advocated for him until it was ordered. Christine also provided information for the patient's dog to come visit for emotional support. Christine touched base with the bedside nurse and clinician, requesting that if this patient has any more questions, to please call her directly.

Later in her shift, Christine came back to see the patient and his mother again. The compassion and patience that Christine displayed for this patient was remarkable. All too often in healthcare, we are so focused on tasks. She was so in tune with helping this patient navigate through his feelings. She demonstrated the core values that UPMC stands for and what nursing is all about.

While on the unit, Christine also steps in and helps anyone she runs into who needs assistance. In addition to her own wound care assignment, Christine checks in with the nurses to see if there are any other patients who need anything. Sliding, ambulating, cleaning up, you name it, Christine helps out!

It is an honor and a pleasure to have Christine involved in patient care on 9G.

Thanks, Christine, for all you do! Your dedication and hard work do not go unnoticed.
