My mom was brought into the ICU from the Sarah Cannon Floor. She was in Respiratory Distress because her CO2 was very high. The 1st night Mom had a different nurse. Mom fought sleep and wouldn't wear the bipap. She continued this throughout the day and her C02 was making Mom out of her mind doing off the wall things. She got Christy the next night. She worked hard with Mom and was more patient than me. Mom was so out of her norm. She winded up having light sedation and still, it didn't help. Mom was antsy getting out of bed and being belligerent and mean. But Christy still was patient with Mom. They finally got her in the bed and Mom was still worked up and wouldn't relax and kept trying to get out of bed. So Christy pulled a chair next to the foot of Mom's bed and the lights were off and Mom was still fidgety. She had even ripped out her IV. Christy asked me about what music Mom really liked and I told her. She looked it up on her own phone and played Mom's music to calm her down. She finally fell asleep and let Christy put the bipap on. Mom slept the rest of the night and over half the day with the bipap on, which I feel really saved her life. When Mom woke up and off the bipap for the day, she was back to herself and felt a little physically out of it but not mentally. She used her bipap the next day. Telling jokes and being my jolly Mom. I truly believe I owe that to Christy because without her patience and caring she showed my mom; I don't know what would have happened next. Mom was close to needing intubation, but Christy brought my mom back to me by getting her to wear her bipap. She is by far mom's favorite nurse. WE both want to thank her and let her know just how special she is to both of us.
