Connor’s attributes as an RN are best illustrated by his patients’ comments.
“… he checked on me at least two times an hour. He was so pleasant, answered all of my questions, made sure my needs were taken care of. I was looking forward to having him as my nurse the following day but he was assigned to a different station. When my nurse was on breaks or lunch, he came to check on me. The medication they had me on caused me to have migraines. My doctor wanted my bed moved away from the sun. Connor assisted my doctor. I hope this will give you an insight as to the exemplary employee you have. He went the extra mile to ensure the comfort of his patients.”
“He is kind to even the sick elderly men and women. He is extremely kind to the people he works with. Always has a beautiful smile. It is obvious he LOVES his job.”

Positive patient comments about nurses are posted for the entire unit to see. At one point, while discussing ways to impact patient satisfaction scores, our Unit Based Council, started discussing the numerous comments about Connor and talking about things he did that generated those comments. He is most definitely a role model for our unit.
Connor’s contributions to patient care extend well beyond his exemplary bedside care. Connor has been an active member of Quality Council and has done many presentations to different units or groups, sharing the findings of Quality Council and the opportunities for improvement. His actions have heavily contributed to the hospital wide awareness of actions Nursing needs to take to improve our performance with Nurse Sensitive indicators. In January 2012, he became chair of the Quality Council.
Connor is not a member of the Wound and skin Care team, however, he frequently assists with quarterly Skin Care Studies and maintains and active interest in ways to reduce hospital acquired pressure ulcers. He has enhanced his knowledge through activities on Quality Council and has worked with various groups to enact some positive changes.
Connor has made presentations to the Hospital Board of Directors Quality Committee on behalf of the Quality council.
Connor has also been very active on the Palliative Care Team. He regularly shares his knowledge of the team with the nurses and physicians alike, thus enhancing the presence and benefits of Palliative Care.
Through all of his activities, Connor is widely recognized as an intelligent committed nurse, open to new ideas, respectful of others and willing to work as a team for improvement. He was asked to join the IDOC committee as a nursing representative to help the physicians work towards physician order entry. He has brought questions back to various nursing groups as they arise, always mindful that he is representing all of nursing and needs to maintain active communication to achieve best outcomes.
Connor also severs as PFC and preceptor on 5 West. He recently had a student who was significantly underperforming. Connor took the initiative to write down a detailed critique of the student’s performance, and proposed a plan to assist the student. He contacted the instructor, met with her to generate a concrete plan, and then applied it with noticeable improvement in the student’s performance.
One of Connor’s patients mentioned his kindness to his coworkers. Connor has, on several occasions, come in to provide comfort while colleagues are hospitalized. He is unfailingly helpful to all around the unit.
