Courtney engaged in conversation as she cared for her and reduced anxiety by just being so genuinely interested in her as a person. She showed kindness and grace, making our difficult journey much more bearable. She is a light!
My wife received surgery to remove a large abdominal tumor that also required removing part of her stomach to which it was attached. We were blessed to have Courtney care for her during the first days following the surgery. Her skill is evident, but the extent of her care goes beyond medical skill.
Courtney was quick to respond whenever we asked for assistance and was such a calming presence as she not only administered care to fix issues, she also gave us valuable insights to help us manage expectations regarding what we would experience each day. Courtney was helping her on one trip to the bathroom. My wife reached and turned too quickly, pulling one of the IVs out of her arm. Courtney quickly addressed the issue and stopped the bleeding while calming (my wife’s) concerns. She patiently comforted my wife and took care of her until the IV team arrived to replace the line. My wife is very relational. Courtney engaged in conversation as she cared for her and reduced anxiety by just being so genuinely interested in her as a person. Every doctor, nurse, and support staff person was outstanding, which is the culture we have always experienced at Memorial hospital. In my opinion, Courtney should be recognized with a DAISY Award for representing the 5 South team, and your entire organization so well. Thank you for the opportunity to recognize excellence.
