Crystal received a patient from the night shift who was awaiting placement at a geriatric psych facility. This patient did not have any family locally. Crystal assessed the patient and found her mental status to be very different than upon her presentation to the ED. Crystal was devastated that this patient would be sent to a geriatric psych facility because she felt it was not the appropriate treatment. Crystal worked for several hours calling the patient's family from out of state, her PCP, and her neighbors to obtain a thorough history. She relayed her findings to the ED physician. The patient was admitted to our facility and discharged the next day with a medical diagnosis. Crystal took a personal interest in this patient and was truly an advocate in making sure she received appropriate care.
