Without Dana's compassion, time, and dedication, our division would not have had the opportunity to welcome 25 new interns now OR nurses to our perioperative family!
I would like to take the opportunity to nominate Dana Zindell, our Operating Room Internship Coordinator for the Perioperative Division. As we all know healthcare has experience a staffing crisis post covid, and our surgical teams continue to encounter the strain of handling the unpredictable demands of our surgical patient population. There is a critical shortage of both contract and full time OR nurses and our division was tasked to recruit and educate 25 nurses in 22 weeks so that we could adequately serve patients in our surrounding communities. Dana quickly rose to the occasion and creatively restructured the program to accommodate 25 interns. She took the initiate to partner with our talent acquisition team, marketing, the department of education and other clinical experts in our division to promote and enhancing the image of OR nursing within and out of our organization. Her goal was to assure that we could meet the demand at all sites and extended the program to our Pocono and Schuylkill campuses. She creatively secured resources and incorporated our simulation labs and 9 of our current sites to assist with the educational needs. Throughout this 22-week program, Dana served not only as the primary educator but motivated staff to embrace the group and encouraged the surgical team to establish a hospitable environment where the interns would feel welcomed and respected throughout their journey. All the while, Dana remained available to all staff and interns by conducting weekly meetings with the surgical services leaders and interns to work through challenges and celebrate success. Dana goes above and beyond to mentor new OR nurses, she is truly passionate about her profession and enjoys sharing her knowledge with future nurses. Without Dana's compassion, time, and dedication, our division would not have had the opportunity to welcome 25 new interns now OR nurses to our perioperative family! She has helped enhance our staffing throughout the network to meet the demands of our patients and families in our community.
