Danielle continuously exhibits the core values of Holland Bloorview. She is compassionate towards the care she provides to clients and families, she exemplifies resilience and is always seeking opportunities to increase her knowledge by using evidence-based research and attending various conferences. Often times we see many children who have experienced a traumatic event and are learning how to cope with their new normal. At times, it can be challenging for the client to see the new endless possibilities of living with a disability but Danielle is able to help these clients realize that they are able to do anything if they put their mind to it.
One of our clients was newly diagnosed with a spinal cord injury and was having great difficulty coping with their diagnosis. Danielle recognized the strengths of the client and consistently provided support around their strengths. She collaborated with the OT and they showed the client that there were multiple ways of doing the same thing. For example, the client can eat with adaptive forks or alter their hand position to be able to hold the tablet. She always shows compassion to the families and clients alike. Even when she is not the client's nurse she would routinely check in with Mom to see how she was coping with the new changes and transitions in their lives.
As a colleague, Danielle is a great example of embodying compassionate care. She is professional, kind, empathetic, resourceful, approachable and courageous. She is a strong advocate for our clients and families. You can see the positive impact she has had on our children and families. I truly feel that her positive attitude and compassionate nature make her a DAISY Nurse.
