This nurse recently had a patient admitted to ICU who decided that she wanted to be designated as CMO. Through the night shift and into the next day, this patient would lose her pulse, then spontaneously return just when the team would think it was her last breath. The patient mentioned to her family that she wished she could go outside "one more time." This nurse got a rolling recliner and transferred the patient into the chair, then wheeled her to the Healing Garden. The family was able to sit with their loved one as the wind blew through her hair, and she smiled in the sun. The patient passed away, having her last wish honored by a caring nurse. She exemplifies what it means to be a BayCare nurse, compassionately caring and creatively intervening to meet the needs of her patients.
