Although every nurse A had was awesome there was one who absolutely went above and beyond to comfort our family and educate us. The day after the shunt was placed A was having some complications and our anxiety levels were very high. A's mom is a new mother with no medical experience and I am an RN with minimal pediatric experience. We were concerned, confused, and mostly just scared. The doctors are great we are not always able to be here for rounds which sometimes left many unanswered questions. Two days after the shunt placement, Darci was A's nurse. She absolutely sensed our anxieties and pulled up a chair and allowed us to ask any question at all. On that 12 hour shift, she absolutely spent most of the hours in the room with us. We learned more from Darci in one shift than we had the entire stay. She eased our fears, gave us realistic expectations and helped us understand our "new normal". We are so grateful that we were blessed to have Darci that shift. She gave advice that has helped us plan for A to come home and more important, how we can expect our future with A to be. most impressed with the level of care that every nurse has given A and grateful to all of them and feel that Darci deserves the DAISY Award.
