I was admitted to the hospital with an infected animal bite. Things quickly escalated and it was determined I would need surgery + IV antibiotics at home. I will also mention here that I am a retired RN so, therefore, was more anxious realizing the severity of the infection. A PICC line was inserted and my emotions were at this point beyond my control because everything in my life had changed in a blink of an eye. My pain was excruciating and unrelenting and I faced huge changes in my daily routine which didn't include a PICC line and IV meds.

From the moment Dawn came into the room she exemplified the care and compassion that goes hand in hand with nursing. There are some nurses who do nursing as a career and then there are those nurses who do it as their passion! This nurse has a true passion. She spoke to me compassionately and professionally; she took so much extra time in going into detail about every step of the process brought her care and compassion. She spoke to me with kindness and not as just another patient who needed a line placed. It is people like her that make an almost unbearable trauma more manageable. She really had a "healer's touch" both physically and emotionally.
