Deidra Phipps, ADN, RN

We have a patient who has been facing difficulties with placement and his home/social situation. Recently, he started telling his nurses and PSTs that he desperately wants a haircut. An RN called the ICU to see if there were any clippers on the unit. The next day, Deidra came up with a pair of clippers from home and proceeded to set the patient up and give him a haircut. Deidra took time out of her busy day to help a patient on a different unit. To watch the patient smile at his reflection in the mirror after his haircut was incredibly heart-warming. He raved that Deidra helped him feel "like a human being again." Her act of kindness made such a difference to this patient.
