Dekontee participates in the Blue Cross Blue Shield initiative for CHF. Every day she interacts with patients, staff, and family providing education about their disease, medications, and follow-up appointments. I sit next to her and I listen every day as she talks to the patients to improve their care and keep them out of the hospital. A prime example was the other day there was a patient that was being sent home; he didn't know he was going home and did not have any money. Dekontee went to the Pharmacy and paid for the meds so the patient could go home with what he needed and to prevent a readmission. This is just one example of the commitment she shows every day to her patients and coworkers. She is a great example to lead by and teach. Her profession is not just a job it's her calling.
