Without panicking and causing us to panic, she got the doctor and help, and before I knew it, she climbed on the bed with me, and we were being carted to an operating room.
I was being induced at 37 weeks due to high blood pressure. The doctor broke my water, and we were just waiting for things to progress. After about an hour and a half of mild contractions, Delaney checked to see how dilated I was. She immediately noticed that the umbilical cord was prolapsed. She very calmly informed us that she felt the cord and that she was calling for help. Without panicking and causing us to panic, she got the doctor and help, and before I knew it, she climbed on the bed with me, and we were being carted to an operating room. It felt like chaos, but the entire team did their best to move quickly. There was so much going on that I didn’t even realize that Delaney was holding my baby’s head off the cord the entire time, from the time she discovered the prolapsed cord, the ride to the operating room, while everyone around prepared me for the c-section, put me to sleep and until they pulled the baby out. Delaney did all the right things to keep my baby safe, and I couldn’t be more thankful to her and the team that was there that day. The staff that was there were also there doing drills that day, so they had to adjust quickly from a “drill” mindset to a “this is not a drill!” - this is very real mindset. I have never been in an emergency situation like that, and it was my first c-section after having two uncomplicated births prior. Delaney and the team did an outstanding job, and I am very thankful they were on that day to keep me and my baby safe.
