Deloras focused on building the capacity and evolving requirements of the nursing workforce.
Deloras Jones, MSN, RN has devoted her 50+ career and passion to visionary nursing leadership and elevating the nursing profession. Her roots are with Kaiser Permanente, starting as a graduate of the Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing diploma program in 1963. She advanced to become top nurse executive for Kaiser Permanente - California Division from 1985-2000. After retiring from Kaiser Permanente, the Deloras Jones Scholarship was established in her name, recognizing academic achievement and promoting diversity among nursing students across California. She went on to establish the California Institute for Nursing & Health Care, the state’s nursing workforce center. She served as its Executive Director from 2003-2012, focused on building the capacity and evolving requirements of the nursing workforce. Once retiring from the Institute, she has been devoted to the Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing and promoting the rich legacy of the school. She co-authored a book documenting the school’s history, Kaiser’s School of Nursing: A 70-Year Legacy of Disruptive Innovation, and is serving as coordinator of the Heritage/Legacy Project for the Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing Alumni Association, which included a $150,000 fundraising campaign for the commissioning of a life-size bronze sculpture of a Kaiser student nurse at the new Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Oakland.
