I would like to recognize Dr. Indermuehle for being an outstanding faculty, a dependable mentor, and a clinical instructor who goes above and beyond for her students. It is a difficult task to learn anything in only four clinical rotations, especially in a specialty such as OB/labor and delivery, yet Dr. Indermuehle optimizes the short time that we have and affords us all of the learning opportunities that arise. In each of these learning opportunities she enhances our knowledge, builds our confidence, and prepares us for our future careers. She teaches the nervous male student how to hold a newborn baby with a confidence they were lacking just minutes before; she watches proudly as the second semester student performs an explicable postpartum assessment made possible in part by the style in which Dr. Indermuehle laid that foundation; and she raises the expectation and standard that she knows all of her students are capable of rising to and meeting.
Aside from her accomplishments as a clinical instructor, much recognition should be afforded to the way that she augments our student learning outcomes with relevant real-world practice scenarios, NCLEX-level trivia questions, and compelling discussions. Even if you have never had an interest in OB, Dr. Indermuehle draws you in with her personality and passion for nursing, teaching, women, and babies. Her approachability made it easy to ask questions when there was a gap of understanding that needed to be filled in, which was appreciated by myself and many others. Lastly, Dr. Indermuehle is someone I identify as a mentor because of her aforementioned approachability but also for her impressive career and dedication to nursing. She is active in organizations such as AWHONN (where she is the coordinator of the Inland Empire chapter), stays up-to-date on policies and procedure enhancements in obstetrics and patient safety, and encourages her students to become involved in nursing organizations and to further their education.
After having had the privilege of having Dr. Indermuehle as my clinical instructor, N12 faculty, and as a mentor, I know I am not only a better student for it, but that she has made an impact that will make me a better nurse for having had her. Because of her, now and in the future whenever I am faced with adversity in my career, I know I can persevere by taking a deep breath, pulling my shoulders back, and being the nurse.Thank you Dr. Indermuehle for going above and beyond, even when you think you're just doing your job.
