Denise is an epitome of a truly caring nurse. She walks the hallways of JDCH with pride. Recently, I was rounding with a mother who was so excited to see Denise as her nurse caring for her son, she could not believe her eyes as she clearly remembers her as her own nurse when she was young and with sickle cell disease was hospitalized many times. She considered Denise as her second mom while she was in the hospital. Her excitement made Denise cry, not out of sadness but of pride and she states: 'this is why I do what I do".
Denise has cared for hundreds perhaps thousands of pediatric patients in her nursing career but she speaks of each one of them as though they are her children. We thank her for her amazing work and for the inspirational nurse she is.
