A nurse's job is to care for a patient, but my nurse cared for me and my wife. As a young male I feel it's my responsibility to care for my family, and with me being here that was hard. My wife, from my bedside, was helping to care for me and take care of our kids from a distance, so having my nurse come in the room and ask, assist, and listen to the concerns of my wife took the stress off me wondering who was taking care of her.
I met many nurses during my seven-day stay, but Devin Kelly cared for me and my wife. I never once heard her complain. She smiled from the beginning to the end of her shift. With all the other patients on my floor, she never made us feel as if she was in a rush. She would ask did we have any questions once she had already explained everything that she was doing or had to do. If there was a question that she could not answer, Devin would find out the information and had an answer to us before she was off. We felt so comfortable with her in the most uncomfortable situation. She is one of those special angels God sent to watch over me and my family. If this is not enough for why Devin Kelly deserves the DAISY Award, then her smile that shines inside out should do it.
