She was supportive when I cried with fear and anxiety, and humorous when we both needed a laugh. We joked that my baby would know her voice because of how often and well she cared for me.
I was hospitalized for a total of 7 weeks while awaiting the birth of my first baby. The first two weeks were spent at another hospital until we were transferred back to Alton / Sand Canyon once our baby was past the minimum for their NICU stay. Dina was one of our many incredible nurses, but her dedication and care stood out in a way that I will never forget. From being the first one to suggest putting a thicker mattress on my bed for comfort to tirelessly looking over every single NST strip for signs of distress in our baby’s heart rate, Dina showed immense care, dedication, and love to us and our baby. She would stop by even when she wasn’t assigned to antepartum, and even brought me a crossword puzzle book to keep my mind occupied during the days. She was supportive when I cried with fear and anxiety, and humorous when we both needed a laugh. We joked that my baby would know her voice because of how often and well she cared for me. She even changed her schedule to be there for my c-section, which unfortunately ended up being moved to the day before. Whenever Dina was on shift, I knew I could breathe and relax because she was looking after my baby’s vitals with such diligence and care. I even felt comfortable enough to take a break from watching the heart rate monitor and nap while she was there, which was rare during this time period. I will never be able to thank Dina enough for her dedication to me and my family. I think of her often as I spend my days with my almost 8 month old son.
