She saw a family member of a patient crying outside the ED as she came into work. She stopped and sat down next to her and asked how she could help. She listened, got the lady a drink of water, and offered to check on her father while waiting for other family to arrive. She then went back and gave her an update, encouraging the daughter that her dad was going to be okay because he was in the right place. She sat with her some more – giving moral support. Her actions embody what the DAISY Award means.
