The Floating Preceptors consist of experienced nurses that support new and, sometimes experienced, nurses as they develop their professional roles and skills throughout ALL of GPC. They have made clinical care their passion and expertise. Their years of service highlight their dedication to a demanding career and the importance of succession planning and supporting the next generation of nurses.
Pat Ward "zooms" around FIVE units on long nightshifts ensuring staff are supported always with a smile and caring attitude. Christie Lev has a unique passion for vascular care and advocates for pain-free procedures and the best evidence-based practices. She is also always willing to step in during an escalation of care situation. Deborah Smith not only serves as a floating preceptor, but also as a Charge RN on 5WE which gives her valuable knowledge on bed placement and the "global perspective".
These are only 3 members of this incredible team. I have personally been "saved" by these ladies on numerous occasions from something as small as finding a breast pump to placing an IV to helping me through a Rapid Response Team Call. The outcomes of these situations are always a smoother night and patient care experiences, but also increased confidence in handling these events by ourselves and known the floating preceptors are there to support us if needed, The Floating Preceptors are kind, selfless, and inspirational women who deserve recognition, but never seek it out, because what they do is from the heart. They have a love of not only these patients and families, but their coworkers and it shows. They show us every night shift what it means to be a true Children's Nurse and how to be dedicated to ALL BETTER!
