Elaine creates an environment that fosters care and compassion not only for all staff, Medical, and ancillary departments but also for patients and their families. She is seen rounding every day throughout Peri anesthesia, saying “Hello” to all staff and patients. She interacts with patients and checks how they are doing. If any staff or patient express concern, she listens and helps resolve the issue, showing care and compassion.

During the second wave of Covid breakout, she was instrumental in arranging ICU patients to be taken care of in PACU. She listens to all the staff concerns and made sure she followed up on staff requests, such as the placement of medication carts, placement of equipment, and items necessary to care for ICU patients. She constantly checked on nurses making sure everyone is okay. She provided constant reassurance and support as nurses went through challenging times.

She creates an environment of trust, compassion, and mutual respect. She creates an environment where continued professional development and appropriate ethical behavior are modeled and supported. When there is conflict among staff, she listens to all people involved. She is “fair, consistent, proactive and honest” (from one of PACU staff). She shows respect to everyone she encounters. When there is a problem or issue with the Surgeon or Anesthesiologist, she listens and finds out where the breakdown in communication and process is, but at the same time, she shows support among staff. She encourages and motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for staff as well as for their patients.

She encourages staff to join TMMC committees and she is very proactive when presented with projects. She encourages members of each committee by having the representative update the team during staff meetings. She encourages participation among members by allowing the members to participate in and present projects.

She is easily accessible to everyone. Whenever staff calls her, she gives her 100% attention and listens to the staff. She is rounding daily and is known to help the team when there is a staff shortage. For example, one day, all transporters were either discharging, transferring, or picking up patients, she volunteered to discharge a patient because the family has been waiting for the patient.

Elaine is an Exemplary Leader. She shows Professionalism every time. She is a very Compassionate and Caring Leader not only to staff and other Teams but also to Patients and Family.
