Elena’s background in psychiatric issues was put to good use when a woman with mental-health issues came in to Dominican for delivery. The patient’s mother nominated Elena for the DAISY Award.
“Our situation was a very stressful one and Elena just took charge and always told us what was happening and why,” wrote the nominator. “When my daughter was losing control, she was right there and helped my daughter stay strong. Elena was in complete control of the situation. She showed respect for my daughter and made sure everything ran smoothly in a very gentle way. Elena took the time to talk with my daughter and she listened to what my daughter had to say. Elena even made sure that I was comfortable and taken care of as well.”
