Beth is readily available to help when Veteran situations arise. She is willing to go out with her staff to see Veterans with mental illness who may require an additional support person.
There is not one specific situation that I can describe where Beth provided support, leadership, and guidance, but rather 10. Ten is the number of social workers and nurses on the MHICM team. Ten is the number of lives she has touched by becoming our supervisor. Beth has been a light to a team that was continuing to provide excellent patient care at the expense of burnout and frustration.
Beth has taken the time to carefully evaluate each member of this team and the team as a whole, which has allowed us to express our individual concerns and address each of them. Since Beth has been our supervisor, team morale, practices, and commitment to our jobs have improved. I know that I can speak for all 10 of us by saying Beth is an asset to the MHICM team, and we are a much better and improved team because of her.
Beth is readily available to help when Veteran situations arise. She is willing to go out with her staff to see Veterans with mental illness who may require an additional support person. She advocates for the case managers on her team, promoting autonomy, safety, and overall wellness. She assisted a Veteran with administering his long-acting antipsychotic injection when a case manager was out sick and helped to problem-solve any coverage needs. She helps organize recreational outings in the community for veterans who may otherwise not be able to leave their homes. She assisted with taking a Veteran to his first Reds game as part of the MHICM recreational outings, which provided a meaningful experience for this Veteran, who has been a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds for many years.
She recently assisted a homeless veteran and the veteran’s primary case manager in getting the veteran safely moved to a transitional living environment. She is often observed talking to each case manager individually to ask about their day spent working in the community and how she can assist and provide a lending ear when discussing Veteran needs and situations. Her sense of humor allows us all to smile each day we are in the office and brings positivity to the working environment. She is passionate about her program and the Veterans that MHICM serves. She has the unique ability to effectively balance the administrative side of management while also having the ability to successfully lead her team in a holistic way.
When starting as the MHICM program manager, Beth told our team, "My job is to help you do your job." There is no better feeling than knowing your boss will back you up and help out any way that she can. When calling her to talk out a situation, she will jump into action and address the need so we don’t have to disrupt our schedule (and our veterans’ schedules).
