Elizabeth J. Martin has served our Veterans here at GCVHVS since 1984. For the last several years, she has been a "one- deep" RN in the Pre-Endoscopy Clinic. As a result, she has managed all aspects of the nursing process for all veterans in preparation for their endoscopy procedure. Ms. Martin is deeply committed to the Veterans she serve. When the Physician Assistant (PA) that works with Ms. Martin is out, there is usually not a back-up provider. Ms. Martin does not allow that to alter her mood and she continues to see her patients and make provisions for all of their needs. She works to the full capacity of her scope of practice as a Registered Nurse. Because of her advocacy and commitment to the Veterans, she runs her clinic even when the PA is out, allowing more Veterans to be seen and cared for.
Ms. Martin works to assure Veterans are seen as quickly as possible in her clinic. Her consult to pre-endoscopy appointment has decreased from standard 14 days to 9.4 days. Ms. Martin strives for excellence and she practices with the highest moral standard. She works tirelessly and will stay beyond her tour of duty to ensure all loose ends are tied. She respects the Veterans and their time and treats co-workers with the utmost respect. On one occasion, she was overheard telling someone "this is not about me. This is about the Veteran and we need to do the right thing for this Veteran". She is definitely deserving of the DAISY Award.
