I am writing to you to tell you how one of your nurses made a heart-wrenching situation palatable for my family and me. Beth Lewis is an exemplary example of what a nurse should be. To explain this in detail would take many words, however, I will try and keep this brief.
My father was admitted to the ICU and was in Septic Shock, he was suffering multi-organ failure. I arrived at the unit and met Beth. She had arranged for the Intensivist to meet with me once I arrived from the Midwest despite many travel delays that day, to go over goals of care and apprise me of my father’s condition. She treated my father and my family with profound compassion, caring, and the highest levels of professionalism that I have seen in quite some time.
