Ellen was the RN assigned to me. From my first meeting with her, she displayed all the required tenets for the DAISY Award. Especially those of clinical expertise and compassionate care, further, in my opinion, Ellen is simply a superb nurse who knows her job and was trained to know how to anticipate what a patient needs and when. Thankfully Ellen provided me superb care. Ellen explained why my procedure required remaining essentially flat for two days and checked on me regularly throughout the day. On one occasion, she very alertly inquired as to why I was receiving two different eyedrop prescriptions essentially for the same treatment result. As it turned out, one of the discontinued eyedrops somehow remained on my record. I do not know if administering both medications would have harmed me or not, but catching that issue certainly demonstrated her attention to detail and caring attitude. In another instance, her knowledge of her job and the doctor's orders for me she reiterated that the 30-degree angle was the limit until the two days had passed from my surgery. It is my opinion that nurses, in general, do not receive the accolades that they should for their clinical performance. Doctors perform surgeries, but if you want to get well, your care and recovery come from the nursing staff that is in charge of your care.
