Emily Asai is always so willing to help and goes above and beyond for both colleagues and patients. Recently, there was a patient in my service who had completed radiation treatment about a month prior, and showed up to the front desk with complaints and concerns unrelated to radiation. He did not have an appointment and is Spanish-speaking only, and I asked if he could wait a few minutes. Emily offered to assist him right away, without me even asking for help. She got him in a room, listened to all his concerns-which would be much more appropriately managed by a PCP (this was all done with the interpreter on our iPad). The patient was apprehensive, as he has likely had instances where he's been unable to understand certain aspects of his care, or communicate because of the language barrier. Emily called the patient's PCP office, while in the room with him, so he could hear that his needs were being addressed. She was so incredibly patient with him and continued to explain what the next steps in his care would be and how to get there, even though it wasn't really the duty of our clinic. Emily's patience and follow-through truly stand out and her patient care is top-notch. We are all so lucky to work with Emily and our patients are so lucky to have her care!
