She would joke around with me and make me laugh and I would completely forget that I was sick.
Emily Vogel, RN, a staff nurse in our Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, recently received a DAISY Award for compassionately caring for her patient who began to feel depressed during her hospital stay. “Emily was so sweet every day that she took care of me,” the nomination reads. “She had an amazing way of making me feel like I wasn’t just a sick patient she was caring for. Being in the hospital for over a week I started to feel depressed but every time Emily came in the room she would light up the room. She would joke around with me and make me laugh and I would completely forget that I was sick. She was a breath of fresh air. The patient was exhausted because of not sleeping due to a large number of people coming into her room. “She could see I was exhausted and even put a sign on my door to allow me to sleep a few hours,” the nomination continues. “It was so thoughtful and you could tell she was a great patient advocate.”
