After some earlier medical mishaps and a crazy, busy night, I was pessimistic going to the ER. Imagine my surprise and delight when every ER staffer from the receptionist to the phlebotomist was cheerful and efficient. Then, I met my guardian angel, not once was he hurried or flustered. He checked on us frequently and asked if I wanted juice, water or a blanket. There are fancy hotels where I haven't been treated as well. Every single gesture demonstrated his dedication to the healing arts - using the endearment "my friend" to his patients, stopping to really listen when I had a question or concern, being incredibly gentle handling my mom, keeping the lights turned off, and whispering while she slept. He exemplifies empathy and far exceeded my expectations during a vulnerable, scary time. Feeling cared about is a precious thing he gave my mom and me that. I will never forget it.
