Erin's clinical skill and especially her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.
Erin was involved in the discharge and placement of a very complicated post-surgical patient. She was able to expedite his stay through prompt, effectual communication and tireless diligence. This discharge involved long complicated orders and clinical follow up between several specialties all with very specific requirements.
She was able to find post-discharge living arrangements that fit all rigorous requirements and worked tirelessly to expedite the patient's discharge. She was also able to skillfully handle significant last-minute treatment plan changes that occurred at the time of patient's discharge. Not only did Erin complete this process once, but three times, due to weather-related restrictions! She displayed the utmost respect and professionalism during very stressful situations and took great personal responsibility and accountability to make sure our patient did get to leave the hospital when he could.
While she was not acting in the classic nursing role, I believe it was Erin's compassionate and respectful care, which helped our patient to return to the comforts of his home, as soon as he was able.
Without her tenacity and patience, our patient may have been hospitalized additional days, if not weeks.
