Eunice, we thank you for being kind, patient, compassionate, professional, and good to us and our mom.
Eunice was recognized by her patient’s family. Eunice’s patient was disoriented and hallucinating. The patient’s son had to step out, so Eunice provided reassurance to the patient and agreed to stay with her until son returned to help “protect” her from the hallucinations and the “ugly lady” she was seeing (in her hallucination). The patient was reintubated on Saturday and Eunice returned Monday/Tuesday to care for her. The family was deciding on comfort care/withdrawal of vent support and asked about family visiting. Eunice suggested that they have the grandkids FaceTime since they couldn’t make it to the hospital. She heard the family conversing in the room but did not disrupt the virtual visits. Eunice also encouraged the patient’s daughter to sing songs to her mom. On Tuesday, the family had the vent removed, and the patient died. While Eunice was at lunch, the family left a note on her chair that read, “Eunice, we thank you for being kind, patient, compassionate, professional, and good to us and our mom."
