This TEAM is comprised of 10 staff nurses who took care of the same patient admitted to their unit. The patient took the time in writing a DAISY nomination for each of the team members and while reading them, I identified a theme based on keywords the patient had written in describing the overall excellent care she received from each of the staff. These keywords which you can find in the individual nomination forms are “compassion” “kindness” “professionalism” “excellence” “above and beyond” and “teamwork.” This is how I came up with the team’s name “Extraordinary & Compassionate Healers.” It is not very often that we receive compliments from a patient about their care experience for more than two members of the healthcare team. So, a DAISY nomination for ten staff nurses who belong in the same unit & provided exemplary & compassionate care deserves a TEAM DAISY AWARD! It is described in the majority of the nomination forms how the staff acted professionally and treated the patient with compassion and kindness. It was narrated how they paid attention to the patient and shared personal experiences and insights to assure things will eventually get better. The patient mentioned many times how they exemplified teamwork and excellence. This team is the epitome of compassion and exemplary practice and models behavior perceived by the patient as extraordinary. They evidently provided an environment that fostered care and compassion. They embody the mission and values of Kaiser Permanente and promoted the image of nursing within the unit, organization, community, and the profession. This DAISY Team Award is to honor the extraordinary collaboration and teamwork of these compassionate healers who identified and met the patient’s needs by providing the best possible care for better patient care outcomes.
