Throughout her shift, she continuously demonstrated that her skills as a nurse were paired with sincere care for her patients.
I was in the hospital in December after my partner and I were in a high-speed motor vehicle accident on our way home from Chicago. It was a very harrowing four days in our room on floor 7, undergoing major surgery and the complicated recovery that followed. Grace was our nurse when we first arrived from the trauma bay and was there through the most jarring and difficult parts of our medical journey. She really showed us that a good nurse makes all the difference when it comes to being seen, heard, and given the best possible care. When my pain wasn't taken seriously by doctors, Grace advocated for me and pushed for further investigation into my symptoms. It's thanks to her that I was brought down to the OR for exploratory surgery, and thanks to her that the injuries causing my pain were discovered and surgically repaired. Throughout her shift, she continuously demonstrated that her skills as a nurse were paired with sincere care for her patients. She was cheerful and kind along with being efficient and knowledgeable and did everything she could to make sure I was as comfortable as I could be. Grace saw us again three days after my surgery, when she was back working on floor 7. She wasn't even our assigned nurse during that shift; but when I pushed the call button, she came running. It was just to help me go to the bathroom; but she was so happy to see us and so eager to check in on how I was doing, it made me feel like she really cares for her patients and really cares about her job. I can't say enough how much of a difference Grace made to our hospital experience at St. Mary's. In one of the scariest and most difficult experiences of my life, Grace was a positive and caring presence that made me, and my partner feel safe and cared for.
