I would like to nominate Genevieve Angeles for the DAISY Award. Genevieve was given very short notice and transferred to another unit as her home unit was closing permanently. Her schedule was changed along with the transfer to our department which was unfamiliar to her. Not once has Genevieve ever made a negative comment regarding the closure of her department; her positive attitude speaks volumes. Genevieve also has experience on another unit, and when we are overstaffed she often asks if they need any extra help instead of taking an extra day off.
Genevieve came to us with an open heart and jumped right in without hesitation. She is an amazing nurse, with a vast amount of nursing knowledge. Often during her orientation with me, I found her teaching me as much if not more. Her patient care is inspiring. I witness her going above and beyond daily to accommodate not only patients but also their families. She truly empathizes with each person she cares for. She never thinks twice about any request; she simply does it with a smile.
Recently Genevieve was working on call for our department and brought down a patient for their procedure. Prior to the procedure, the patient was scared and very anxious about the results of the procedure. If anyone knows Genevieve, they know she is a very faithful woman, and her nursing care often proves her devotion. On this particular day, the patient shared with her that she had forgotten her rosary in her room, and the patient seemed very upset. I have no doubt that Genevieve would have run right upstairs, however, we cannot leave the patient alone. Instead, Genevieve goes to her purse and gets her own rosary. Without a single thought, she offered her rosary to the patient. The same day, she shared that story with me, she also shared that she and her family collect clothing and other items for families in the Philippines.
I have known Genevieve a very short time, but in that time I have found a truly wonderful and selfless person. This is only one of many stories I could tell. She provides marvelous comfort to her coworkers in times of need. Her kind words & beautiful faith have brought a great presence to our department. She truly lives the Humancare Promise and is an amazing role model to our team here at Seton Hays.
