Glenda has worked in our OR for many years and is a strong patient advocate. She has extraordinary attention to detail and very thorough with her patients. She takes her time to answer all questions and soothe ruffled emotions. She is very reassuring. Not only is she such a patient advocate, she is a nursing advocate. She is a strong resource for her staff, serving as the resource for Orthopedics and Urology. As resource nurse of the Orthopedic service, she has been transforming the preference cards for the many surgeons we serve. There are so many times I look at her and just think, "WOW", and the best part of this is that it an everyday thing!
One recent story represents attention to detail that very likely prevented a cardiac event during an OR procedure. One of her patients had been scheduled for a 4-hour spine procedure. In her pre-op review of the chart, Glenda noted that the patient had experienced recent chest pains, and concerning elevation in blood pressure. There were orders for medications, a stat ECG, and ECHO. Everything had been completed except the ECHO. She immediately alerted the OR team involved of the events she identified, which none of them had been made aware. The Anesthesiologist discussed the circumstances with the Surgeon and both concluded it would be in the patients best interest to postpone the surgery given the risks and pursue further testing.
Glenda is an exceptional nurse and very deserving of this DAISY Award.
