Gracy Sanju, RN is an extraordinary nurse. She is well-loved by her co-workers. In fact, I don’t know of anybody in the unit who doesn’t just adore her. Every time we think of a team player, she is always number one on the list. Her care for others is so obvious in her interest in what is going on in another one’s life and helping in any way she can. She once asked me if it was ok for her to give a generous amount of money to somebody who was in need and it showed me how caring her heart is considering that she has obligations of her own like raising 3 young children. When Gracy comes to work, she is always ready to take on her responsibilities. You will know when she is around because her laughter is hard to miss.
Gracy establishes a special caring connection with patients and families through trust, belonging and hope. Gracy is gifted with the value of empathy. Patients that she takes care of always remember how caring and nice she is. I know this for a fact because when I round on patients and ask how their care is while in the hospital, they will always mention “Gracy was Awesome” or “My nurse Gracy was an angel”. She is a strong advocate for her patients and will always do whatever is right for her patients like communicating with the other healthcare team what the patient needs. Sometimes, when she tells about what her patient is going through she would be teary-eyed. Once we had a patient who was sick with AIDS and on top of it, his son recently passed away and the patient verbalized the desire to end his life. She didn’t just carry out the doctor’s order for Baker Act but talked to the patient about the love of God for him and prayed with the patient.
Gracy works together with all team members to ensure a positive patient experience. She is an open minded-nurse and always ready to take on new challenges and strategies to improve patient experience. When bedside report and hourly rounding were introduced. Nurse as always ready to carry on and comply. She doesn’t complain and always ready to be of help to other team members. She is always on a rush to help a team member when she sees one. CDU is a fast paced unit and most of the time, after just discharging a patient, there will already be a patient waiting for admission and Nurse is always ready to take the admission and even volunteers herself to take it. This is a one of a kind display of teamwork.
Gracy generates enthusiasm and energy while maintaining a caring attitude in all clinical situations. She is a showcase of caring attitude in all situations and to all persons she comes in contact with. At the same time the enthusiasm that goes with her caring attitude is infections. The way she carries herself in the workplace just makes others people’s work lighter and enjoyable. She is able to share a laugh even when our unit is most of the time busy. She joints the NPC meeting ever month and very supportive to the goals and agenda of the council. When she learns something new, she is alert and willing to share and to let others know. She is a gem to our unit and to the whole Celebration family and I hope this nomination will not fail to give her the honor and appreciation that she so deserves.
