We cannot thank Gudrun enough for her assistance to open the FBC and help create standards for the staff in the FBC to continue their excellent patient care.
What makes a good nurse? I believe it is the willingness to educate others, whether it is a patient or coworkers. The most unique characteristic of nursing as a profession is that it is a caring profession. Good nurses are excellent communicators with colleagues as well. Effective communication contributes to positive patient outcomes. The ability to explain complex information in an easy-to-understand manner is a key skill. Gudrun Schimmel, BSN, RN, CPAN, CCRN exemplifies the above thoughts. Her willingness and selflessness to create a curriculum of walk-through drills and live drills and run them for the team at CVH for emergent Cesarean Section propelled the reopening of the unit in a quick and efficient manner. She was constantly teaching three different groups of nurses - FBC, CCU, and shift supervisors. Her expertise and knowledge made it easy for others who are unfamiliar and anxious in the OR to learn from her. Gudrun’s dedication to excellent patient care showed through during the month of training. We cannot thank her enough for her assistance to open the FBC and help create standards for the staff in the FBC to continue their excellent patient care. As The DAISY Foundation website states, “we want to help nurses see in themselves what their colleagues see in them…” This is why the FBC team is recognizing Gudrun.
