Haleigh is a DAISY Nurse for her excellence in nursing while I was a patient in her Emergency room. I had been having a rough time in my life, (divorce, a young mother to two young boys, recent job change, new significant other in my life, and a new pregnancy, and miscarriage). I was being treated for anxiety and depression. I had several ER visits, and this one found me in deep despair. My significant other had to carry me into the ER as I had not eaten, drank fluids, or got out of bed in 2-3 days. I was so depressed I was placed in a suicide precaution room. The first nurse did her job adequately i.e. asking me questions from the outside door, kept the computer away from my reach, and was kind to me. But then Haleigh relieved her. She walked into my room, sat next to my bed, reached over, and hugged me. I could tell from this embrace she was not afraid of me. She cried with me, she told me if I ever felt like this again, I should call her, and she gave me her number. She then reiterated she wanted me to call in good times also. She explained how she had been in a similar situation years ago and guaranteed me it will all be ok. She even cried with my significant other. We felt like we were her own family. She even made multiple after hour calls to arrange my SUN Behavioral Health follow up for the next day. She didn't have to do that; it clearly could have been my responsibility. Quite simply, she saved my life that day, she has changed my life forever, and I think of her guidance with every decision I make. I want her to know how special she is, and how I really appreciate it.
