My husband was transported to the Heart 4 South unit from Baptist Beaches where he had been an emergency admit the prior day due to unintended consequences from a pacemaker install procedure which put him into constant Afib and CHF. Two separate procedures were performed to remove the fluid from both his pericardium and left lung, but then it was watch, wait, adjust meds, and pray. The true caring, attention, and support to both my husband and me were positively overwhelming. They answered my detailed questions, did everything possible to make D as comfortable as possible, and raised our spirits.
We were able to come home and, while the healing journey is not over, he is making great progress. Working together the professionalism, respect, and compassion of this team was amazing! They celebrated his improvements with us and provided much-needed encouragement and information in this very scary time. You could see the collaboration in action and the confidence they displayed in their fellow team members - and that was so reassuring.
This is a team of angels that we believe was brought to us as we walked through an unexpected 'shadow' - and they brought the light of comfort and healing. They went over and above to care for both the body and spirit of my husband and me, and we will be eternally grateful. He continues to heal, and we believe that is in no small part to the strong foundation provided by this team.
