Heba went above and beyond and made a meaningful difference in the care of a patient in our facility. The patient arrived scheduled for a rhizotomy but the patient stated she had a nickel allergy. Heba paused the care of the patient and researched the specific needles and probes for this procedure and identified that they contained nickel. Heba notified the physician of the concern and communicated with the patient as well. The patient wanted to proceed even though it meant significant risk to her. Heba patiently communicated to the patient that she should reach out to her allergist as well and see what they had to say. The allergist recommended against moving forward with the procedure given the patient's reaction to nickel. However, it didn't stop there. Not only did Heba think to assess the needles and probes for nickel (which most wouldn't think to do), but she went on to research all brands of needles and probes to find the one brand that this patient would be able to have, given her allergy. She went back to the patient and communicated alternatives and a specific brand of generator that she could request from another facility when she was ready to reschedule.

The following day, the husband called the facility asking for the information, and Heba calmly and patiently explained the situation, as well as their alternatives moving forward, and offered recommendations of other locations where she could potentially have this much-needed procedure. Heba is a phenomenal nurse, she cares about each patient she encounters and makes sure each patient is heard. Her physicians and colleagues love working with her due to her dedication to patient care, compassion for patient lives, commitment to excellence, careful attention to detail, and enthusiasm for quality clinical care. She truly goes above and beyond for her patients each day, and this is one example of her daily dedication to her patients.
