I never see Heidi sitting back once she’s completed everything with her patients; she actively approaches staff and offers her help!
I have worked with Heidi Wegner for almost a decade and have seen what an amazing nurse she is. She goes above and beyond for her patients and works well with all the staff. Heidi comes to the hospital to work and has the best attitude when it comes to hard days and difficult patients. She puts her own problems behind her and focuses on her patients. Their safety and comfort are always her priority. It's never about getting the job done quickly. Heidi takes her time to ensure she gets the job done right.
Furthermore, I never see Heidi sitting back once she’s completed everything with her patients; she actively approaches staff and offers her help! Whenever I may feel a little lazy or discouraged, I look at Heidi and feel motivated. She inspires me to give my all to my team and to my patients. Heidi has such a positive presence and is always laughing. In fact, she has the nickname “Chuckles” in our unit.
During Kindness month she was a leader in getting people to participate in different activities, including the unit blood drive! Heidi is an excellent clinician and can empathize, individualize, and advocate for her patients. We treat a lot of patients with cancer and when we do give chemotherapy, she is one of three chemotherapy nurses on the dayshift. Becoming chemotherapy certified is not a requirement for our unit, it is a choice. Chemotherapy itself is very complex and the patients can be very sick. She establishes rapport with these patients and makes them feel comfortable. They put their lives in her hands and she administers medications that are very potent and dangerous. Patients remember her for how much of an impact she had on them while they were here; sometimes here for less than a day, but yet, they remember her, and she remembers them. For all these reasons, and for countless other stories that I am not including, Heidi is a true DAISY Nurse!
