Described as a "lifeline" for families seeking comfort, information, patience, and support during life or death emergencies, Hilary often is the nurse everyone remembers and whose name is spoken during discharge calls or return visits to her unit.
Recently, a patient who had coded returned to Hilary's unit and was assigned her. Unsure if the patient would remember or even want Hilary to oversee her care once again since she had coded, Hilary was concerned about the patient's reaction. All of that dissolved, however, once she entered the room and the patient insisted upon a hug, followed by her thanks to Hilary for saving her life three days prior. Both women felt the moment was cathartic, and it was fitting that Hilary served as her discharge nurse the next day when she was able to go home. Hilary is the rock for those needing to vent, rely upon, or simply comfort in their times of need.
